An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example
An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay Example An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay An Examining Of The Great Commission Religion Essay God authorized and commanded me to committee you: Travel out and develop everyone you meet, far and close, in this manner of life, taging them by baptism in the treble name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then teach them in the pattern of all I have commanded you. I ll be with you as you do this, twenty-four hours after twenty-four hours, right up to the terminal of the age. ( Matt 28:18-20 The Message ) 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, stating, All power is given unto me in Eden and in Earth. 19 Go ye hence, and learn all states, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: A 20Teaching them to detect all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the terminal of the universe. Amen. ( Matt 28:18-20 KJV ) Introduction The Gospel of Matthew ends Jesus meeting with His apostles in Galilee. This was a particular meeting and would alter the class of universe history in many ways. The meeting was foretold by Jesus in Matthew 26:31-32: 31 Then Jesus said to them, You will all fall off because of me this dark. For it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered. 32 But after I am raised up, hello will travel before you to Galilee. This meeting was announced both by an angel ( Matt 28:78 ) and Jesus Himself ( Matt28:10 ) . It was a meeting filled with assorted emotions. Some had run off and others had denied Him before His decease. Now He stood before them, alive. Their reaction was to bow down in worship ( Matt 28:16-17 ) I was a meeting in which Jesus gave His adherents a bid that we now refer to a the great committee. Person one time said that this was seen by many Christians as the great suggestion, but it is a bid that lies at the bosom of the Church and from which she operates. The bid ends with the beautiful promise that He would ever be with them. This is non something to be ignored, but to be a changeless portion of the Church s operation every bit good as that of every truster. I will be looking at what makes this committee so GREAT. I Great in its Authority To Jesus was given all authorization. As the Godhead, He is the One who has the original right to make all things: For by1 him all things were created, in Eden and on Earth, seeable and unseeable, whether thrones or rules or swayers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him. And is before all things, and in him all things hold together. ( Colossians 1:16-1 ) What higher authorization than the Godhead Himself to publish such a bid. As our Redeemer, this authorization is even more marked: who, though he was in the signifier of God, did non number equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nil, taking the signifier of a retainer, being born in the similitude of work forces. And being found in human signifier, he humbled himself by going obedient to the point of decease, even decease on a cross. Therefore God has extremely exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every articulatio genus should bow, in Eden and on Earth and under the Earth, and every lingua confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glorification of God the Father. ( Philippians2:6-11 ) Jesus has all authorization both in Eden and on Earth ( 1 Pet 1:1-5, Eph 1:20-23 ) . This is the authorization with which He speaks and this is the authorization to which we must respond. Cipher has a higher authorization. No authorities or organisation can in any manner cancel His authorization. There is no political system or doctrine that is above His authorization. The Bible ; e says that He is above all the male monarchs of the Earth ( Rev 1:5, Psa 2:1-12 ; 110:1-6 ) Jesus surely deserves our obeisance to Him. He is talking with an authorization that is above this universe. While worlds can be fallible, Jesus can and will present on His promises. Even His promises comes with the highest authorization ( 2 Pet 1:2-5 ) It is on the footing of such great authorization that Jesus give the great committee. Not merely great in authorization, but besides great in mission. II Great in Mission The mission is the focal point, the way in which we must go. It is the mission that guides our wlak through life in obeisance to Jesus. We are to do adherents. The word used here is the Grecian word Matheteuo which is defined as to go a student ; to disciple, i.e. enrol as bookman: be disciple, instruct, Teach. We are to do scholars, disciples and impersonators of Jesus Christ. Even during His ministry on Earth, Jesus was continually ask foring people to go His adherents ( Matt 4:18-22 ; 11:28-30 ) . When ask foring them, He expected them to go like Him: A adherent is non above his instructor, but everyone when he is to the full trained will be like his instructor. ( Luke 6:40 ) Jesus tells us how to travel about doing adherents. He gives us non merely a bid, but besides the manner to obey that bid. First by baptising in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Baptism for the forgiveness of wickednesss ( Acts 2:38 ; 22:16 ) Baptism in H2O ( Acts 8:35-38 ; 10:47-48 ) A entombment of the old ( Rom 6:3-6 ; Col 2:11-12 ) Second by learning them to detect the things He taught and commanded. Baptism is merely the beginning. Teaching must go on afterwards. This was the instance with the early adherents ( Acts 2:41-42 ) . Jesus said that both baptism and ongoing instruction is what is indispensable to true discipleship. Not merely great in authorization, and great in mission, the great committee was besides great in range. III Great in Scope The bid was FOR ALL NATIONS. They were to travel into all the universe and preach to everyone ( Mark 16:15 ) . They were to be informants to the extreme parts of the Earth ( Acts 1:8 ) . They were to go forth no rock unturned so to talk. This was non limited to merely Israel as we find in Matthew 10, but to every state under the Sun. While Israel had been the focal point of God s redemption program up to that point, now, with the work of Jesus on the cross, all states, Jews and non Jews could go fellow inheritors to the Kingdom of God ( Ephesians 2:11-22 ) . The nazarene wants us to believe globally, non merely locally. While we should non disregard our local community, we should besides believe of those outside our ain little universe. As human being we have a inclination to concentrate on our small world. We do non look outside of the few people we know or encounter each twenty-four hours, and that is where we start with the Gospel, but that is no where is should halt. The work of redemption is available to all God s animals. All the assorted states are a portion of that creative activity and all have the redemption work of Jesus available to them as a gift of grace. The great committee has great authorization, is great in its mission, great in its range, and great in its promise. IV Great in its Promise Jesus said that He will ever be with us. This promise is similar to the 1 He made earlier to His apostles: For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. ( Matthew 18:20 ) It is similar to a promise He made to those who follow His commandments: : I will non go forth you as orphans ; I will come to you. Yet a small piece and the universe will see me no more, but you will see me. k Because I live, you besides will populate. In that twenty-four hours you will cognize that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me swill be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. Judas ( non Iscariot ) said to him, Lord, how is it that you will attest yourself to us, and non to the universe? A Jesus answered him, If anyone loves me, he will maintain my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and do our place with him. ( John 14:18-2 ) It is a promise similar to the one God Gave to Moses ( Exo 3:11-12 ) Joshua ( Josh 1:5 ) The state of Israel ( Isa 41:10 ) I is a promise that provides comfort, particularly in times of subjugation ( Rom 8:31-38 ; Heb 13:5-6 ) This promise is besides to the terminal of clip. It extends even to when the great crop will happen ( Matt 13:39-43 ) . Throughout the Christian age, Jesus will everlastingly be with His adherents as they go into all the universe devising adherents. Through the Holy Spirit, we receive the necessary gifts to non merely promote each other, but besides to enable us to set the great committee into action. V Conclusion The great committee is non merely limited to the apostles. It is of import to observe that the adherents were to observe all things that I commanded you . The adherents were besides to detect this bid along with all the other instructions of Jesus. The bid does non halt with the original adherents, but carries on until the terminal of clip. The great committee is a committee for the Church as good. The inquiry is whether we are honouring the great committee in our lives today. There are some things we can make to look into if we are: Are we subjecting to the authorization of Jesus? Are we working, in whatever capacity to do adherents of Jesus? Are we endeavoring to do adherents in all the states of the universe? Are we staying in His words and thereby doing certain His staying presence is in our lives? Shortly after Jesus gave the great committee, Jesus ascended into Eden. His earlier adherents took that committee and as a consequence did great things with it. As a concluding word I would wish to add a verse form written by Greg Steir, which puts the focal point of our duty for the great committee into focal point: Do nt Trouble oneself Me Do nt trouble oneself me with psyches to salvage. I have my ain docket. There s work to make, athleticss to play, Important things to go to to. Do nt trouble oneself me with that small miss, The miss playing in the street. She s much excessively immature to understand The Saviour she could run into Do nt trouble oneself me with my friend at work. He s got his ain faith. I do nt hold clip to alter his head. He ll do his ain determination. Do nt trouble oneself me with the distant sounds I hear, The sound of people shouting. Although I wonder who they are. Who are these victims shrilling? Do nt trouble oneself me with who they are. I truly do nt desire the incrimination. For it s the small miss and my friend at work Who from snake pit shriek out my name . But do nt trouble oneself me.

Free Essays on Motherless Daughters
In Motherless Daughters, Hope Edelman tries to understand her own life in relation to the loss of her mother when she was seventeen years old and to understand why as she says, "she still has such a hold on me?" Her research included interviews of women who had lost their mothers, analyzing hundreds of letters from women who responded to articles which she had published, reading extensively about grief and loss of parents, and consulting with expert psychologists, psychiatrists, and other experts on grieving. She shows how losing a mother through death or abandonment at any age has ramifications throughout a woman's life. She tells her own painful story and mixes it with those of many other women who lost their mothers both as children and as adults. Edelman's was seventeen when her mother died of breast cancer. She was left to deal with a grief-stricken father and younger siblings as well as her own feelings. Although she left for college the following year and later led her life as a journalist, she discovered one day when she was twenty-four, she missed her mother so much that she was actually in physical pain. Ms. Edelman recognized in motherless daughters a lot of similar and many diverse reactions to their mothersââ¬â¢ deaths. Factors affecting the reactions included the age of the daughter when her mother died, the cause of death, the birth order of the daughter, the personality traits of the daughter, and the support system available to the daughter after the loss and Ms. Edelman focuses on each of these issues. It is obvious the younger and more dependent the daughter the more severely she was affected by the death in most cases. The most deeply felt losses were the loss of motherly nurturing and of female role modeling. Grandmothers or aunts were sometimes available to help with these losses, and those daughters fortunate enough to have nurturing fathers felt secure and got emotional strength from them. Business Innovation - Six Sigma program and Motorola Term Paper
Business Innovation - Six Sigma program and Motorola - Term Paper Example This process saves a great deal of time that is used to improve on design and general quality aspects of products. Introduction Motorolaââ¬â¢s history is quite helpful for many businesses especially in the manufacturing sector. Its major contribution to this sector is the Six Sigma initiative in production where focus was shifted from measuring quality in percentages to parts per million. This idea stemmed from the realisation that the advancement in technology cannot stick with the conservative forms of measurement. Six Sigma was introduced to achieve the set quality goals so as to minimise chances of wastage in terms of resources and time. The company since the adoption of this strategy has saved its shareholders billions of dollars in terms of resources and time. The initiative has also enabled it to deliver high quality products to its consumers all over the world. Cell phone sales have shot up tremendously in the last decade and Motorola was well positioned in the 1990s to ca ter for the rising demand. For the initiative to work the company has to ensure that it changes its leadership and invest in rewarding innovation coupled with creating the right metrics. This paper will aim at discussing the circumstances that led to the innovation of Six Sigma in Motorola, how Six Sigma project was implemented at Motorola and the results achieved by the company after implementation. Company overview Motorola is one of the leading companies in the electronic communications business. It deals in designing and manufacturing cellular and cordless phones, broadband products and modems among other products. It ranks as the second largest producer of mobile phones behind Nokia. It has for a long time controlled about 17% of the entire world market in regards to mobile phones but leading in two-way radios (Pande, Neuman & Cavanagh, 2000). It has concentrated a great deal in wireless communication and internet related technology. The company further produces a wide range of products for use in the automotive industry together with computer and navigation. It is also important to appreciate that the company enjoys a bigger market outside the USA at almost 60%. Motorolaââ¬â¢s glory can be attributed heavily on its quality products which in 1988 saw it receive Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. This award recognises businesses that act as role models for others in various areas of management and general operations. It is the Six Sigma initiative at Motorola that attracted this admiration. Motorola acted as the first company to incorporate this Six Sigma in its operations back in January 1987 and due to its almost-immediate success, many other companies followed suit. Before this initiative Motorola was experiencing one of the most turbulent times since it was Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928 (Coronado & Jiju 2002). However, since February 2011 Motorola became two separate companies; Motorola Mobile and Motorola Mobility. Motorola and Six Sigma Before Motorola came up with the Six Sigma initiative, it was on its downward trend and it required an intensively innovative approach to the market. The competitive market arena had become too competitive for the company to rely on its traditional management practices and operational methods. The changes towards a fully-fledged Six Sigma project

Martin Luther and the German Reformation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Martin Luther and the German Reformation - Essay Example Sexual immorality among clergy was common. Lay people had little knowledge about their faith and many clerics were poorly prepared for their task, having obtained posts by buying them or nepotism. Catholic believers often had a lack of assurance about their own salvation. There were also problems with authority - church or state, which should prevail? Papal authority was challenged and a desire for reform became general. When it did come it was certainly in part due to theological differences, but the power vacuum that existed in Europe at the time, with doubts as to who was really in charge, played its part too. Printing was becoming widespread and with it new ideas soon spread too, including some that could be described as revolutionary. The Papacy Giovanni de Medici had achieved the Papacy in 1513 as Leo X. Within 2 years he had used up the funds in the papal treasury, in particular on extensive building schemes and as sponsor of artists. Seeking ever more funds he began to sell o ffices within the church, creating 31 new cardinals for instance and living a life of absolute luxury. Printing was becoming widespread, but the Vatican was a strong censor, only allowing documents they approved of. At the ending of the Lateran Council in 1517 a prophecy was made by Pico della Mirandola , a lay man ( cited on ââ¬ËOrigins of the Reformationââ¬â¢, undated) . This had stated that if the pope did not heal the wounds of the church then God would act and remove the rotten limbs. Instead, in order to raise funds for the construction of St Peterââ¬â¢s in Rome, Leo made matters worse by instigating a huge sale of indulgences. An indulgence can be defined as payment a sinner must make to God. Luther was more concerned with an individualââ¬â¢s faith in Godââ¬â¢s gift of salvation rather than the length of his purse. Luther In October 1517 Martin Luther, then an Augustinian monk, was a doctor of theology and a professor of Biblical studies at the University of Wi ttenberg. He was a man who thought deeply about his faith and finally reached the point where he rejected all church practices based solely upon tradition and not upon the true nature of God. At this point he came up with 95 theses which he made public by sticking them on the door of the church in Wittenburg. (Stupperich, The History of Christianity, 1977, page 362). This act was the spark which lit the fires of reform already prepared by his predecessors such as Wycliffe and Has. He was not only letting people know what he thought , but was openly challenging the Church. He refused to recant and in 1519 , according to Stuppervich ( page 362, denied the papacyââ¬â¢s authority. In 1521 he was finally excommunicated. Luther was attacking certain practises, including the sale of indulgences, but was really attacking the wealth of the church in material terms, which contrasted with the truths of the Gospels. Luther was forced to flee from Wittenberg , but returned in 1522 in order to try and bring some calm to the reformers there. He began to reform church services, introducing a freer way of worship rather than the rather rigid ways that had become normal practice. He saw salvation as being up to God, not the following of particular practices. It seems likely that Luther wanted reform rather than revolution, but his followers took things rather further than he had originally envisaged. That being said by 1537 he

Dishonest salespeople and gossip Essay Example for Free
Dishonest salespeople and gossip Essay No matter what culture one belongs, common observation shows that women ââ¬Å"gossipâ⬠while men ââ¬Å"talk shopâ⬠; women are ââ¬Å"bossyâ⬠and men are ââ¬Å"firmâ⬠(Womenââ¬â¢s Language, 2005). However, even if common observation shows that women talk more than men, research findings prove otherwise. In fact, findings would even show that ââ¬Å"men have been shown to talk more than women in settings as diverse as staff meetings, television panel discussions and husband-and-wife pairs in spontaneous conversationâ⬠(Womenââ¬â¢s Language, 2005). As men tend to talk about ââ¬Å"male thingsâ⬠like politics, sports, cars, women talk about the ââ¬Å"women thingsâ⬠such as child-rearing, household chores and some personal relationships. According to Pamela Fishmanââ¬â¢s research studies, women are relatively weak in interactive situations because they tend to ââ¬Å"exploit questions and answers in order to force a response and keep the conversation goingâ⬠(Womenââ¬â¢s Language, 2005). Therefore, ââ¬Å"gossipingâ⬠is common and universal. People always love to hear something about the other person who is not on the scene of conversation. What about dishonest salespeople? (rhetorical question) Are these people more disgusting than those who gossip? Looking at the gravity of damage which one causes more harm?à Looking at the gravity between the results, which causes greater damage? Looking at the gravity of the situation, it seems that gossiping is the most destructive trait here. (parallelism). But of course, people will not discount the fact that dishonesty in sales is also a bad trait. For one, not all incidents of dishonesty are detected and not all detected cases are reported. Therefore any fraud statistic is an estimate. Nevertheless, the statistics make it clear that dishonesty in salespeople occurs frequently, and no organization is immune (Peterson Zikmund, 2004). The costs of fraud and dishonesty will continue to rise unless auditors, management, and the general public become more proactive in learning about the types of fraud, the perpetrators and valuable fraud prevention and detection techniques (Bezanis, 2002). It is important to be able to know the difference between the real and spurious products in order to maintain the good image of that company. Fraud is conventionally defined as ââ¬Å"intentional deception, deceitful pretenses, or deliberate trickery to gain an advantageâ⬠(Hanlin, 2004). Fraud encompasses an array of irregularities and illegal acts characterized by intentional deception. Every fraud involves three elements: (1) theft act, (2) concealment, and (3) conversion (Albrecht Albrecht, 2001). For instance, buyers who get the misfortune of buying fake Gucci bags are able to identify the fake product because of the flimsy hardware, cheap leather and misspelled logos. The fake bags are so like the originals that it is hard to spot them quickly. There are businessmen who are able to copy the smart way. High-end label bags cost around $500 to over $1,000. Anything less than these price ranges are fake. Buyers are also encouraged to read the fine print so that they do not buy those that says, ââ¬Å"Designer Inspired.â⬠The numerous issues which plague the business sector with allegations and prosecution of unethical conduct easily fall under either the definition of fraud or unfair and deceptive practices. Or if the issue does not fit with the two terms, it can fall under unethical business conduct. The unethical conduct is a catchall phrase that includes fraud and unfair practice and other aspects beyond the scope of the two terms. In the same manner, gossip is also an unethical business indulged by people regarding other people. However, gossip causes hurt. It can hurt people and damage lives. Thus, gossip, depending on the seriousness can be extremely dangerous too. It can damage a personââ¬â¢s reputation and image. In the long run, gossip seems to be more damaging than dishonest salespeople because one can always return a fake product. But the destruction one causes in gossip spreads like wildfire and cannot be restored. As defined, ethical business conduct is doing something that is not required by law, contract, or other obligation and which is a positive contribution to society. Therefore, a contrary conduct is unethical. This means doing something which is prohibited by law, contract, or other obligation or which has a negative contribution to society. Contribution to society is now part of the definition because ethical business conduct has evolved into what is termed as corporate and social responsibility. An act of the company has a vast effect on the society as a whole. In the course of human interactions, there are many situations in which it is difficult to make a decision because values come into conflict. It is essential that an individual or an organization engage in values clarification to develop a personal decision-making process that fosters ethical behavior.

Irving Textual Analysis of The Legend Of Sllepy Hollow Essays
Textual Analysis of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" 1.) Romantic Description: a. pg. 715 - "there is a little valley, or rather lap of land, among high hills, which is one of the quietest places in the whole world.à A small brook glides through it, with just a murmur enough to lull one to repose; and the occasional whistle of a quail, or tapping of a woodpecker, is almost the only sound that ever breaks in upon the uniform tranquility." Irving describes nature as an untouchable force.à He ignores the realism of nature and reveals only the beauty it holds.à It is the stereotypical description of Mother Nature.à Irving makes it sound so tranquil as if this place doesnââ¬â¢t exist in this world. c. pg 731 - "Its limbs were gnarled, and fantastic, large enough to form trunks of ordinary trees, twisting down almost to the earth, and rising again into the air. The tree is almost created into somewhat of a creature.à With the limbs twisting out and rising into the air.à Irving takes ordinary earthlike objects and changes the perspective of them into imaginary matter. 2.) Avoidance of Controversy/Digressions: a. pg 717 - "...some little, tough, wrong-headed, broad-skirted Dutch urchin, who sulked and swelled and grew dogged and sullen beneath the birch.à All this he called "doing his duty by their parents;" and he never inflicted a chastisement without following it by the assurance, so consolatory to the smarting urchin, which "he would remember it, and thank him for it the longest day he had to live."à When school hours were over..." Irving constantly made fun of the Dutch, and this is one of those examples.à He calls them wrong-headed and mocks their appearance by criticizing theirà broad-skirted dress.à Then to avoid the controversy he changes the subject and goes straight into the next thing. b. pg 728 - "The musician was an old gray headed Negro, who had been the itinerant orchestra of the neighborhood for more than half a century.à His instrument was as old and battered as himself." Here, Irving tries to avoid the subject of slavery and human rights. He tries to stay neutral on the issue.à He described the black man as battered and old showing the inequality of the two races, in a sense avoiding the whole slavery situation during that time period.à 3.) American Character Types: a. pg 722... ...cts women as a bit lazy because in the passage they jut sit around talking, eating, and having a good time and have no work to do. Therefore, implying that men do all the work and the women just lounge around. 8.) Use of American History: a. pg 719 - "He was, moreover, esteemed by the women as a man of great erudition, for he had read several books quite through, and was a perfect master of Cotton Mather's history of New England Witchcraft, in which, by the way, he most firmly and potently believed. Irving refers to an actual historical event by mentioning that Ichabod was a firm believer in Cotton Mathers writing about the Salem witch trials. Irving is pretty accurate because it is actually a real book and was commonly read.à He references to the literary works of the time and the thoughts that people had about the world during the time. b. pg 728 - "The British and American line had run near it during the war; it had, therfore, been the scene of marauding, and infested with refugees, cow-boys, and all kinds of border chivalry." Irving does use an historical American setting, America and the British were engaged in war at the time and had battles around that.Ã

19th Century American Literature Essay
The nineteenth century gave readers a plethora of literary genius. Perhaps the most recognized literary movement was Transcendentalism. This literary concept was based on a group of new ideas in religion, culture, and philosophy. Transcendentalism paved the way for many subgenres, itââ¬â¢s most significantly opposite; however was the emergence of Dark Romanticism. The Romantics had a tendency to value emotion and intuition over reason and logic. Many of the writers of the nineteenth century placed themselves into one or the other category. In its most specific usage transcendentalism refers to a literary and philosophical movement that developed in America in the first half of the nineteenth century. It first arose among the liberal New England Congregationalists who departed from the orthodox Calvinists, whose approach to Christian life emphasizes the rule of God over all things. (in text citation) Transcendentalism also involved the rejection of the Puritan values that were once the basis of New England culture. American Transcendentalism began with the formation of the Transcendental Club in 1836, in Boston. Ralph Waldo Emerson lead the group of literary minds including, Margaret Fuller, a feminist and social reformer, and Henry David Thoreau, a naturalist and author. Together they and their other members published The Dial, a short-lived but influential periodical. Emerson, the father of Transcendentalism, wrote some of the major works of the movement. Self- Reliance and Nature are two of his well known. In Nature, Emerson conveys to the reader the belief that each individual must develop a personal understanding with the universe, and that there is a relationship between man and nature. Henry David Thoreau was also a major contributor to the Transcendentalist movement, in two of Thoreauââ¬â¢s most influential pieces, Walden, he writes of his strong beliefs of natureââ¬â¢s impact on man. In Resistance to Civil Government, Thoreau writes of his issues with organized government: ââ¬Å "That government is best which governs least, That government is best which not governs at allâ⬠His libertarian views of governmentââ¬â¢s involvement in every day life lead to his arrest in 1846 for nonpayment of poll taxes. His refusal to pay was based on his beliefs that one should not support a government that supported such atrocities as slavery. Walden was an account of Thoreauââ¬â¢s time spent living in a hut in Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts; he explores such values as self reliance, and the simplicity of nature. The Transcendental movement inspired authors like Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Alan Poe and sparked another literary movement known as Dark Romanism. Unlike Transcendentalism the Dark Romantics believed that human nature is not necessarily good, that the darker side of humanity had been being ignored by the transcendentalists. The works of the Dark romantics is filled with tales of revenge, obsession, shame and madness. The conflicts between good and evil set a gloomy, dark mood of the tales written by the Dark Romantics. Nathaniel Hawthorne wrot e the Scarlet Letter, a story of shame and hypocrisy, his ancestorââ¬â¢s Puritan values and his lack of belief in their ways lead to the creation of this piece. His main character, Hester, is labeled an adulterer and is forced to wear a scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠that symbolizes her sin of adultery. While those who see her see a symbol of shame and guilt, Hester sees it as a symbol of strength and pride, and above all, a symbol of the townââ¬â¢s hypocrisy. This romantic piece of literature also has gothic elements. Hawthorneââ¬â¢s use of imagery and dismal tones lend it to the genre of Dark Romanticism. Other works by Hawthorne, specifically, My Kinsman, Major Molineux, are filled with dark and light imagery, from the main character, Robinââ¬â¢s, meeting of the ferryman to his realization that his kinsman is not the respectable man he once believed he was, this story had dark undertones that go along way in conveying the strange and secretive ways of the townsfolk that Robin meets. Edgar Alan Poe also writes in the Dark Romantic genre, he had a great dislike for the transcendentalists calling them, ââ¬Å"Frogpondiansâ⬠, after a pond on Boston Commons, he ridiculed their writings and his piece, Never Bet the Devil in You Head, was a clear attack on the movement. Poe, who is sometimes considered a gothic writer, uses ideas such as dementia and paranoia in his works. Supernatural behaviors of characters and personification grace the pages of many of hisà best tales. Many of Poeââ¬â¢s tales are distinguished by the authorââ¬â¢s unique grotesque inventiveness in addition to his plot construction.
